There are no roads around Matava, only a network of paths that link one village to the next. Plunge into one of the many cool, refreshing waterfalls and pools that slice down through the rugged highlands and watch as the local children leap from dizzying heights.

Beautiful, traditional thatched Fijian bures afford guests privacy, comfort and superb unrestricted views over the ocean and Great Astrolabe reef.

The bures fall into 2 categories - Honeymoon and Oceanview and are double/twin or triple configuration (Honeymoon is double only). All bures have ensuite bathrooms.

Meals at Matava are an imaginative blend of local and international cuisine. Dining takes place on the balcony of the ’bure levu’, one of Fiji’s largest traditional structures where guests gather from around the world for papaya salad, mango chicken, coconut curries and sashimi while sharing conversation and friendship.

Meals are offered as a package; comprising a continental style breakfast, lunch, and a three-course dinner extravaganza. The friendly Fijian staff will put a smile on your face and make sure you will love the food as much as they love preparing it for you.

The Great Astrolabe Reef is the world’s fourth largest barrier reef and is Fiji’s largest living organism. It extends along the entire southern side of Kadavu and stretches for over 120km.

It is rated as one of the world’s premier diving locations offering a great diversity and spectacle in coral structures and marine life. We dive the reef extensively and escort you through the wonders of this hidden paradise.

Matava caters to all levels of diver from beginner to experienced and will take you to sites varying in depths, currents and visibility ranging from 20 - 50 m! You can expect a kaleidoscope of colorful corals and wonderful marine life and our Manta Ray Dive is not to be missed! Spectacular Dive Sites and exclusive diving on virgin reefs awaits those who dive at Matava - The Astrolabe Hideaway. There are over 20 world-class sites offering enormous variety for divers of all levels within a 5-minute to half hour boat ride.

Superb blue water game fishing awaits you at the Great Astrolabe Reef and nearby continental shelf drop off. Anglers who want to spend an exciting few hours or those sport fishing for the first time can do so by trying their hand at catching Walu, Barracuda, Trevally or Mahi Mahi and maybe catch one for the barbecue that night.

The keen billfish angler or those eager to experience big game fishing can step up the tackle and head off for the chance of marlin, sailfish or tuna and the best stand up and fight experience they are likely to have. Matava does not allow taking billfish trophies, the policy is catch, take the picture and release the fish to fight another day.
